Bill Gately is a Triumph enthusiast dating back to the late 60s with a desire to go fast. Really fast. All the time. Bill purchased his first new Triumph Bonneville in 1973, and, although he’s modified for performance, he still rides it today.
“We loved riding our Triumphs and saw an opportunity to enter the performance market initially developing carburetor kits, oil cooler kits and braking and suspension upgrades,” said Gately. “It just kind of snowballed from there with our engine kits and eventually our mono-shock chassis that serve as the platform for our race bikes and Street Trackers.”
Bonneville Performance manufactures and distributes the leading Mikuni carburetor kit and the leading oil cooling system made exclusively for Hinckley-era Bonnevilles, Thruxtons, Scramblers, Americas and Speedmasters. Bonneville Performance also has worked with industry-leading companies, including Wiseco Performance Products and Carillo (connecting rods), to create 904cc, 995cc and 1100cc engine kits plus a 1200cc stroker kit that’s capable of 104 rear-wheel horsepower and 92 ft. lbs. of torque. That’s twice the factory specifications! There’s also a 995cc, 12.5:1 compression engine that is raced in the AMA Pro Racing Grand National Series that produces 97 rear-wheel horsepower and 88 ft. lbs. of torque.
Other performance parts that Gately and Bonneville Performance helped develop include front and rear suspension components, alloy wheel kits and full floating brake rotor kits.
Bonneville Performance is the first Triumph-powered AMA Pro Flat Track team in more than 30 years.
“Flat track racing provides some of the most action-packed competition you’ll ever see. You just can’t describe the thrill of watching these guys slide through the corners just inches from each other in the dirt,” continued Gately. “It’s extremely competitive, and we’ve been earning our stripes and learning something new every time we go out on the track. It’s a little like ‘David and Goliath’ but that suits us just fine. It’s more fun that way.”
